Community Outing Planning Checklist

A premium planning checklist so outings feel intentional — not improvised. Use it the night before or the morning of any community trip.

01

Before we go

  • Where are we going?
  • How long will we stay?
  • What are possible triggers?
  • What does my child need to be successful?
  • What visuals should I bring?
  • What sensory supports should I bring?
  • What reinforcers or comfort items should I pack?
  • What is our exit plan?
02

During the outing

  • Watch for early signs of distress
  • Offer communication support
  • Reduce unnecessary language
  • Use visuals
  • Offer break options
  • Display the Parent Support Sign if helpful
  • Prioritize safety and dignity
03

After the outing

  • What went well?
  • What was hard?
  • What should we change next time?
  • Do we need support from the clinical team?
